My YouTube recommendations are getting so ass that I might actually start watching more movies in my free time now. Normally I only go see movies when they're in theaters but I might just start pir- BORROWING digital copies from a friend online several times. I don't wanna make a Letterboxd though, feels like too much pressure to "catch up" to everyone else on there. Also I heard the site is getting bought out

Same. This is why i collect movies. So the streaming corps can never dictate my entertainment

oh my god same hat with the recommendations. like there's a gem here and there but like 90% of the recommendations are stuff i just do NOT care about?? at least it's encouraging to try out movies ... i've just been using a basic excel to track mine + some tracking sites as a secondary Place

I always see dumb drama videos about a random YouTuber nobody knows, or "commentary videos" saying stupid stuff like "NOBODY DOES X ANYMORE" even though plenty of people do that thing.

Like for example all the "Gen Alpha is DOOMED" videos, or "anti-overconsumption" videos which are most of the time literally just "This woman bought something I didn't like so it's overconsumption" and all they do is watch TikToks of women buying lots of stuff and go "Wow! That's a lot of stuff!" bruh they're not even doing any real commentary. Those videos are the real overconsumption tbh

if you ever want a good way to uh, *borrow* more efficiently, stremio is a really nice option. the viren070 guide on it is really easy to follow

I was talking about awful YT recommendations on Neocities like a year ago and most people told me "yea, just hide it and don't engage and it'll go to normal", which it didn't. It makes me so frustrated! I love calm videos about cooking and crafts and media analysis but my recommendations are all drama. I wish you good luck in finding shows and movies you'd like ! There's lots of great website options...

setting up rss for yt channels i usually watch was probably the closest i ever got to escaping 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐀𝐋𝐆𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐇𝐌 glad to know i’m not the only one who keeps having to go “i do not care about internet drama. i do not care about internet drama.” the moment they open youtube proper …or is developing a doomscroll problem with youtube shorts

Every day it gets harder to mantain my "Cool YouTube Videos" page because most new videos suck so much ass, I mean I still have all the stuff I saved to "watch later" and older videos but it's way harder to find fun stuff that's worth my time nowadays

I use imdb to add movies to a watchlist and then do a csv export of that and do tmdb api calls to get all the information about those (they accept imdb ids, legends). and then i have my own program to keep track of which movies i watched, where i stored it on disk and where i can find friends to borrow digital copies from. idk how long before imdb is enshittified into uselessness like youtube tho

I've switched to using youtube's super-secret rss feature a while ago, idk how well it would work for everyone else but it serves my needs fine. Also I can confirm hot fuzz is good

From what I've heard yt makes an rss feed for every channel. Then you can just cast the video to vlc/mpv or just download it. Pretty neat. I think I may make myself a setup based on this someday...

as a frequent letterboxd user i do not recommend letterboxd LOL does what an excel file can basically. useful as a database but not more useful then imdb or whatever. NTBTSTM is a masterpiece, am a big nirvanna fan! recommend all of matt johnson's work especially the dirties.
