Namecheap pulled the plug on the Neocities dot org domain in response to the site apparently being offhandedly being mentioned in a random court case in India. No warming or anything, just shut it down and suspended their account so they couldn't migrate. Details are on neocities's bluesky
Namecheap, the registrar, is the trigger-happy lot in this saga. This is an emerging problem these days in the online world. I believe that GoDaddy also have their share of problems, so one is really stuck between a rock and a hard place on whom to choose.
