If you've never tried Linux before, Mint is a good place to start. If you want an optimized distro for gaming, CachyOS seems to be the place to be rn. If you want something stupidly stable that can run on older hardware, Debian's a good choice. And if you just want something that's good overall, Fedora seems to be a good pick.

And if you want something that radically redefines security and eats through RAM like nothing else because it turns every window/program into its own VM, pick Qubes OS

Thank you all for the input. I should have clarified ive used mint for awhile, but the past couple of weeks ive been installing/trying stuff out with my free space + virtual machines. I’ve been getting very into linux so ill likely make a blogpost (or a few) about it haha

I use fedora and KDE on all my machines, if you want a plug and play distro Aurora is pretty good and hard to mess up, although you cant go wrong with good ol Debian.

I'm going to be completely honest i've tried to install arch about 6 times but keep running issues with dual booting in the grub bootloader. I do think its an attractive system (outside of the memes/clout) but fedora and debian are tempting me to. I really wish i was smart enough to get more of the deep differences between distros

honestly there is not going to be a tangible difference for the majority of people (and that is a good thing) so unless you run into specific issues with some packages that in the unlikely event cannot be solved you really cant go wrong with whatever seems the most appealing.
