I know i really shouldnt use neocities feed as a social media replacement, but im currently too tired to update my blog and i need to get this out there: I am currently through my second Playthrough of Look Outside, and I am confident calling it my all time favorite game. I cannot believe how overlooked this game is, I think anyone with even a slight interest in horror / rpgs should play it.

I havent played it myself but from what i know of it and the gameplay ive seen, it is definitely a great game. Really gets the "incomprehensible" part of incomprehensible horror right

In *my opinion* i don't think there really isn't a fixated purpose for the Neocities feed :o, i've seen plenty of users use them each for a different things, some redact more deeply about the changes in their site, some ask for feedback or questions, and some other people just post off-topic stuff in the means of engaging with other users ^^ And btw i agree!! I likey a lot Look Outside and specially its OST.

( (,; ⩌ ;,) Dang it i made a lot of typos in my previous reply and i can't fix them. )

hey kronk, just letting you know I just succeeded in installing iodéOS on my old phone! I'll be using it for the next few weeks and testing out some apps

Hey i totally missed this! Congrats on getting that set up iirc you were having trouble with it. I really do hope Linux phones, or just alternative OS's for phones is a tech trend that catches on

This might be an obvious or silly question, but once in awhile i'll see a site that has a thumbnail for their actual site, and not their landing page...Is there a setting im missing to do that? or are people doing some fuckery to trick it

What are The Social Medias people use these days besides Neocities? Is it still bluesky?

i use lemmy sometimes which is like a federated version of reddit, it feels like you get the same content served to you no matter what on most of these platforms so i only get on it like once a week to catch up on niche communities. Bluesky seems to be the big one right now though.

I like using Instagram to keep in touch with my irls and family but I rarely post. Apparently a lot of artists are using Twitter/Bluesky but that style of social media has always been really confusing to me. Twitter is especially confusing now because of all the AI shit/Grok/whatever it's not even really worth it to use social media in the big 26 imo

I only use Tumblr, Bluesky and Instagram but mostly to promote my shit and look at other artists while i'm there. I don't really use social media, as made evident by the fact i don't have any personal social media accounts.

i only really use insta/tumblr, twitter is nightmarish and bluesky never really appealed to me. insta is where i talk to my IRL friends and tumblr has a lot of great artists

I usually use Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Reddit, and Newgrounds but I'm mainly active on the former two.

I actually love void, its probably my one of my favorite distros out of the ones i tried. I'm currently trying out Arch and NixOS because I want to give those more of a shot, but Void and Arch are my favorites. The only negative to void is that theres not as many packages and that a fair amount of packages require more setup because of relying on systemd, but if you don't want to use systemd then void's great.

I take everything i have ever said about any linux distro back 1000 times. Void Linux is my absolute dream distro. They were NOT joking about Runit being faster

been thinking about giving Void a try. I've heard some stuff about compatibility issues due to the lack of systemd or the fact that some programs have to be compiled from source code due to Void's package manager. Still, if you're still going strong after a few weeks i'll probably give it a try this summer

have they added full-disk encryption to the installer yet? i remember testing and really liking it a few years ago but that put me off using it as my main distro

krongulus's avatar krongulus 2 months ago

I will likely eventually post about my experience later on but so far i haven't seen anything missing. Anything i couldnt find i just got on flatpak, you can also double check here https://voidlinux.org/packages/ I want to say it was easier to install then arch, but a little tougher then something like fedora/mint that has a visual GUI.

taibhse's avatar taibhse 2 months ago

@just-a-husk i know about that, i meant in the installer. i don't want to have to do it manually. i remember there was an issue or PR about it like 5 years ago but i don't think they've done anything with it to this day

The classic Linux experience right here. Mint my beloved, Arch not working and fucking Gentoo

i'm starting to understand this urge to tinker with something, especially tech. there were thoughts in my mind like "i should try installing arch, mint was easy so this MUST be easy too!", but after reading this i don't think i'll have that thought ever again

Try the flatpak version of Steam if you did not already! if you have any issues like with Steam definitely give Aurora a shot, its also Fedora, it is immutable, comes with all the libraries/software you might need, and its made by the same people who make Bazzite (also great).

@sclptures If you're interested in Arch but too nervous to install, I recommend EndeavorOS or CachyOS. There *is* also an Archinstall script for Arch that helps with the installation but i've heard of some people having issues. Also if i'm being honest, and i probably should have included this, If i wasn't dualbooting on the same disk Arch probably would have worked way better/out the box

@krongulus i'll consider that once i'm comfortable enough with the terminal!

i believe steam is in rpmfusion, you should enable that if you haven't already

The way windows, everytime i try to dual boot with a new distro, completely ruins my computer is truly a sight to behold. I have windows in case for school but im thinking of installing it onto a portable ssd. You cannot begin to explain the pain i have gone through these past 2 weeks.

you could always do what my chanology roommate in college used to do and physically switch out SATA HDD's whenever you need to change OSes
