Ostia Antica is great and about 25 km out of Rome. Same with Hadrian's Villa. I'd recommend them both!

Ostia Antica was definitely the highlight of my trip! I was there when it wasn't too busy, I think, and I wish I had a lot more time to look around and to enjoy the feeling of walking around in a Roman town
