I suppose the challenge is holding enough of the Bible in your mind at one time to see the “synoptic” perspective and I guess that becomes easier after a life time of reading it.

Love that quote, The beauty of the Mass and the power of emotion was a part of my early conversion but to expect that along each step of the journey would prevent us from seeking God for His own sake rather than just for the good feelings it gives us. Also rock music does need to make a comeback haha.

I don't know any Christians so I'm not sure what do you mean, but people *still* read Mere Christianity today and they still praise it. If its reception among modern Christians is overwhelmingly positive, then why couldn't a book like that be written today?

In 1952 Lewis was still able to find doctrinal commonalities among the handful of "main" Christian-types. Given the emergence and prevalence of "non-denominational" and "ideology-based" Christians today, there are no such presumed commonalities. And perhaps there are no longer even main Christian-types.
