Referencing the Yap Trap, I really agree with the sentiment that companies aren't experimenting anymore. The reason I incline to retro games to much is that they're so... unique! Some of my favourite game series like Rhythm Heaven and Katamari are my favourites because you can't find their gameplay-style almost anywhere else. Obviously I still love some modern games -- Mario Odyssey will always be my favourite...
...game of all time. But, I do wish game companies still TRIED to be innovative. And, no, improving console performance isn't innovation. Updated graphics were impressive 20 years ago, but now it's just a lazy marketing gimmick.
