Intersting post about the search engines, I've know about the big site index, and how most of the smaller ones pull from them, but it's a nice read on just how many other search engines are out there. I've used some of them before, and open soure ones like searx. But you have to really give up the mindset of perfect results with these.
@mufb - I liked it! I'm also easy to please. But I think it's a genuinely good series. Thought it was a neat thing using Kurt and Wyatt Russell to play the same character in different times. The kaiju are excellent.
@enflicted - I was really surprised at the number of search engines out there! I agree, there isn't a perfect one. I think you have to tailor the search engine to what you're looking for. I like using mojeek for old graphics sites searches. DDG is my go-to. Had been using Ecosia but there isn't a way to ban sites from searches. Tiara searches led to pages and pages of Pinterest links. Gah! Trying out free Kagi now.
Great links as usual. The quilting podcast sounds really interesting. I would love to get into quilting one day. I hope you're able to find some relief (or at least distraction) from the pain this week.
@oopsiedoodle - thanks! Quilting looks so neat and I wish I could do it but I can not sew. I can fake hemming my scrubs (because I'm short and everything is too long) and sew on a button but that's about it. I subscribed to the Ologies podcasts. They have a lot of cool sounding episodes, other than the quilting one like nudibranches, big cats, historical toxicology.
I use DDG as my go-to as well, I have for years now, but I've noticed over the past couple of years, that they do filter and censor a lot of results, even with custom set settings, the other day I searched up something, found what I was looking for, but the next day, I did the same exact search, and that site no longer shows up in results, but it did in other search engines.
How is the Monarch show? I've been meaning to check it out
