i just wanted to correct u on not being able to be diagnosed with bpd until you are an adult—this isn't true. there's nothing in the icd or dsm criteria that states that cannot be diagnosed under the age of 18. in fact your environment in childhood is one half of how bpd develops. many psychiatrists may refuse to diagnose bpd in minors-
-because of stigma in the mental health field, not because minors can't have bpd. early teens is actually when bpd symptoms starts to manifest, on average age 14 or one year before puberty.
@ticklemepink I know there's nothing in the DSM that says this, but many doctors are very reluctant to diagnosed minors with BPD due to the stigma. I mentioned the fact that this was due to stigma ("you don't want to misdiagnose (a teen) with a highly stigmatized label") in the article in question, and I also mentioned that your childhood plays a large part in BPD's development...
("BPD is overwhelmingly caused by experiencing abuse, especially childhood abuse...") So I knew everything that you told me already ^.^ I'll change my wording to make it more clear that it's not DSM criteria or anything though
