That’s a very cool button. I’ll try and remember to add it next time I update my site

I definitely get that. Although I do sometimes struggle with the very difficult to read fonts people go for

For sure I think you have to use careful discretion to pick something between a realistic font from the middle ages, especially the type of stuff they used before the time of Charlemagne lol, and something people can actually read.

Your comment inspired me and I have just worked out how to change my font to something a little more aesthetic

There's so much irony poisoning on the internet. I'd like to write a post about that one day.

I am not a big fan either, but I seem to have fallen into the corner of the internet where this is less so! I am a big mediaevalist, and I try to capture a bit more of an older atmosphere on my website, but I am limited by my technical skills to execute what I have in mind. I try to be sincere and unbothered in a world where all things must be buried in irony lest it be seen as "cringe", but it's difficult at times.

I admit that I have a very absurdist insincere side myself. I think the best way to deal with it if you have that problem is to carve yourself a place out where you don't do it. Then you can retreat back into if you need to but your "sacred" space wont be contaminated.

thanks! there's a bunch of bands i've seen in small venues that aren't listed, it's def the scene i'm most familiar with. it started with listening to deftones "white pony" as a kid.

Nice. No, I haven't read any of his work actually but I would like to. That's pretty exciting to study theology. I feel like I spent most of my life avoiding the subject so I'm extremely ignorant, like an elementary school student learning to add single digits. But it's been all positive changes in my mentality since I've started so I guess better late than never.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing to feel that way; I often feel that what I have learnt the most about during my degree is my need for humility, as my studies constantly remind me how little I know and how little I can know at all. As for Lewis, I would recommend beginning with A Grief Observed, as it is a short but profound work that reflects on a Christian perspective of navigating suffering.

The Screwtape Letters was also a joy to read for me, and The Four Loves is very insightful and relevant to daily life as a Christian. Mere Christianity is also a solid staple that many people use as a gateway into Lewis' works. I hope you're able to give him a read sometime; I think he's brilliant!

Thanks. It's more difficult than you realize to source a good background these days. You have to really dig to find something that isn't AI and then getting it to match the page is an effort as well.

I've been thinking of doing almost the same thing! I hadn't actually considered how tricky it'd be to get a good picture of a dish, especially because I don't have a decent camera lying around. There's probably a ton that goes into such an image

My guess is that properly plating the food and using the correct lighting would go a long way. And using photo filters you can probably get away with a phone camera. Real cameras are much harder to use correctly than software cameras. But yeah, you at least have to be ready for your photo to not come out how you expect.

That is probably the case yea. I was thinking of perhaps taking the pictures outdoors, as I don't think I'll ever get good lighting inside. It could also be an opportunity to learn how to touch up photos in an editor to make them more presentable!

This is a nice resource. My priest recently gave me a similar booklet from the society of Mary

Thanks. I wish I could say I had as much time to do page updates as I did when I started this. The time will come again, I'm sure. I'm glad you like the design. I sometimes feel like its rare for anything visually simple to be appreciated on neocities so it's nice to hear.

No problem! It's so cool to find someone else who is also interested in ancient Germanic culture, your library page (the Edda especially) has been very useful!

Luke is a great gospel, I think because he is writing with the benefit of some distance from the events. It's like a memoir from someone who thought in ww2 is very valuable, but actually a historian writing a few decades later can look at events more holistically - and perhaps see more clearly what specific details are most relevant.
