so not only is there an esoteric score being applied to my site that impacts engagement. but if I don't use the microblogging features of the site enough there's a FIFTY PERCENT PENALTY? that neocities itself doesn't tell you about?
the more I read into it the crazier it gets. so a bunch of randos gamed "the system" some years ago, and the solution was to implement a worse system that can still be gamed, but makes it so that new sites are effectively cordoned off from the wider community until they hit an unspecified amount of engagement points. nuts.
There's a what? I knew it could never be simple. Good thing they can't throttle my main engagement bait of screaming my URL at random drunks in the street.
what the fuck actually. i specifically avoid following people who use the feed too much bc its annoying no wonder it's been hard to find anyone along those lines for the last while
i'm very curious as to what actually constitutes a nsfw site as it's a pretty vague term for moderation purposes, i've had public sites follow me that post both real and cartoon porn that weren't marked nsfw so whatever standard theyre using is very different from what i understand the word to mean lol.
^ I think The Neocities Crew should be transparent about these things, especially seeing as how they impact the user experience so heavily. just solid guidelines on what counts as NSFW and a public explanation of "special sauce". and it'd be pretty neat if they didn't shadowban sites, seeing as they themselves got shadowbanned from bing not too long ago.

I am engaging with posts and using website features! Thanks for the TRUTH BOMB
