I was exposed to a lot of those movies where right before a couple divorces bc the man wasn't doing shit he would find god and the marriage would be revived--and I fully believe this trope exists not to be an ideal for men but propaganda for women. Actually I think all of these movies were made by one fucking studio but redacted and redacted in my family eat em' up like they're smut
I do not really want to have to read about systems theory just to be sure I'm using a quote right in my blog posting about religious trauma but fine I guess
Like I was gonna say--the message essentially boils down to "you should keep waiting because he's just a lost sad man that needs to find his way to christ and you" and the secular version of that is "you can and should fix him because he's just a sad lost man and he needs to find his way to you" like either way it's keeping women in this submissive state of complacency.
I would love to see the "I can fix them" mentality explored as a toxic trait or tragedy rather than idealistic romance. The only stories I can think of that do this are my own, godbless
I'll elaborate later on my blog but there's not much else to say tbh. Christian ideals as an extension of misogyny blah blah blah
And despite anyone's intentions, I don't know who said this but I've heard this quote, "the purpose of a system is what it does"

As a queer person, the whole cishet romance genre seems to be 'what if a man was emotionally available' and it lowkey distresses me.
Oh my god. Please can I quote that. Can I tape on my eyeballs.
