I still can't find out how to respond to replies on updates so I'll just comment here, thank you so much for the comments! :D And sorry I didn't see it for so long! For that specific section on behavior I was referring to rudimentary tool use, like crows. But gastroliths are also common too, and sometimes they just eat sand as well! :)

Thank you for your message! I couldn't find a way to respond so I hope this method is okay : ) I am so glad to share iron films with other people!! They are really quite common when you start looking for them! Would you be able to do me a favor? If you ever encounter films in your vernal pool patrols that look like iron films, but formed by bubbling to the surface of the water, would you let me know? Thank you!

This formation method means that they might not actually be iron films, but this type is quite understudied, and I originally encountered it in a vernal pool. :) If that is too much trouble though, no problem! I hope your vernal pool patrols go well! (and what a cool term, haha)

(I hope this method replies to you!) I actually just now made an account! People usually report films on iNaturalist as "Leptothrix discophora" but I've been hesitant to do the same because it's much more likely that they can form in a plethora of different ways that can't really be ascribed to one species. But I'll look into it more!

And yes you totally should make ecosphere jars! They're so fun and low-maintenence, and it's especially amazing to watch them evolve over time. My oldest one is 1.5 years and is still not done changing! Some professors I know have ones that are 15 years old..

HUGE skull collection page update, since I was lucky enough to discuss degreasing methods with a fellow hobbyist/curator. I decided to keep the outdated knowledge on the site, but to put a strikethough through everything irrelevent. This way, I can see how I myself have improved, and mistakes aren't something to be embarrased of. In the scientific world, it is good to have everything on record anyways, even mistakes.

YES!!!! I love her books so much! My mom had the whole collection, and I believe she read the stories to her students when she was a kindergarten teacher. Do you have a favorite story? Mine is the one with the caddis worms.

You know, as a French person, I personally think it is a crime that we don't seem to have any french translations. It's been a project for a while to translate them to maybe re-publish them? Idk... Also, my favourite book is by faaar Among the Meadow People, but I can't choose between the grasshoppers, the lazy snail or the tent-caterpillars!

Yes! I do! I have a few deer, an opossum, a skunk, two of our chickens who passed, a baby raccoon and a few more smaller ones. Collecting them is so much fun.

Replying here so you see- I use Auxy to make music at the moment, though I'm starting to dabble in MuSE and LMMS to see if I can figure those out. I do use Audacity for sample editing now and then as well. And geese are great! They get more hate than they deserve for being little dinosaurs that stand up for themselves.

Interesting, thanks! And yes, geese are misunderstood, and are they are at their "meanest" when they have goslings and people go near them. I don't blame geese for hissing and lunging when people go near them. Better than watching those peacocks at the zoo being kicked by kids while their parents laughed. 7 yr old me wanted so badly for those peacocks to jump at those kids.

Started a page on scavenger animals. They are such interesting creatures, and have such an important role in any biome. One of my favorites are turkey vultures. They are elegant, smart, and have very interesting lives. Their babies are also really cute.

The first baby hatched today! I will take pictures as soon as I can, for now the quail chick is in the incubator drying off. I will add more detail in the quail keeper's journal once I get the time.

Update: I am really happy with this batch; so far I have 8 in the brooder and two finishing hatching/drying out in the incubator.

I have been very busy, so I haven't been able to update the site in awhile. I got my first grounhog skull the other day, and have been cleaning it up, and the baby quail are all grown up now!
Also, I updated my quail gallery! Gen 4 are all named after minty plants.
