Welcome to The Third Space
A home where research and analysis of third spaces (libraries, cafes, parks, churches) and how they function as one based off the behavior, design, and other details of each establishment.
Introduction
How does the design of third spaces in Seattle’s University District (U-District) and Roosevelt neighborhoods influence who uses these spaces? The populations that these spaces are accessible to? How the spaces are utilized? A third space is a
“familiar public spot where [people] regularly connect with others known and unknown, over a shared interest or activity”
. Because this definition is so broad, in our project we focus specifically on parks, cafes, and libraries. We will be taking a multimodal approach to answering our questions, conducting and writing a mini-literature review on existing research about third spaces in tandem with a video essay about our experiences with third spaces in the U-District.
Watch our Video about it here!!
You can watch our little video about our thoughts and observations on third spaces in the video below :3 most clips come from parks, libraries, and cafes all around U-District in Seattle.
