I don't know how this happened but I always thought I knew what Cave Story was, it turns out I was thinking of a game called Knytt this whole time. Great review!

Knytt is very much of that same era of freeware indies, so makes sense! It's something I need to play through myself some time.

@p7uen Yeah, that summarises why Master System Shinobi feels so odd to me. Level design and enemy design clearly tailored for mechanics that this version of the game doesn't have feels... odd.

I would hazard a guess that the rice paddies were removed because they were too unfamiliar for western audiences, especially in those days.

Found you through the Willy Wombat page. Looking at the rest of your site, looks like we share quite a few gaming favourites too! (Klonoa, Sonic, Treasure, etc) Your collections are really impressive

I only just realised that the screenshots I took for Toejam & Earl and Wonder Boy in Monster World through OBS had the video source resolution incorrectly set to 720x576 INSTEAD of the correct 640x480 and that's why the screenshots for those two reviews are so garbage and low quality, because they're badly scaled up to 576p by OBS and scaled back down to 480p, I am so sorry and so mad at myself jhgfkjhgkhjgfuj

Next time I play through both of those games on my own time I'll grab new screenshots to replace the crappy ones (but the gifs will remain untouched)
