Purpose

This channel allows any Matrix user to view tweets from various security/privacy related accounts on Twitter. By default, only the bots can send messages into the channel.

A list of all accounts the bot is following can be found here. This list mirrors the “Following” list of @DanielMicay. Please note that there are some protected accounts which do not get their tweets broadcasted by the bot in order to respect the wishes of the account owners. Follow those protected accounts on Twitter if you wish to access their tweets.

The freshoxygen bot runs Nitterbot for Matrix. One needs valid Twitter developer and user/consumer api keys in order to utilize their own bot.

Tips

It’s best to use a Nitter instance to preserve your privacy if you want to browse a website to examine tweet and profile information. There are many extensions and apps which will redirect Twitter links to Nitter.

Todo

• Nitterize all tweet status links, unshorten t.co links, add media links or previews Done.
• Switch to bot code that is licensed (i.e. code a new Matrix bot) A license was added to the upstream thanks to refragable.
• Add native keyword filtering capability to Nitterbot (in order to stop using the Matrix RSS bot).
• Make room history public once room history retention limits are added as a user-configurable option.
• Add other, clearly marked, lists with twitter accounts suggested by the community.
